Colleges, Housing and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
Within CHES, the Bay Tree Bookstore is a self-supporting Auxiliary Enterprise, whose mission is to provide to the campus community with books, related materials and services which complement the academic environment and which support the diverse needs of the campus community.
Under the General Supervision of the Assistant Director/Merchandise Manager, the Apparel/Gift Buyer will have responsibility for the selection, purchase for retail sales, and display merchandising of apparel and gift products within those department categories. Assists with preparation and monitoring of related goals, purchasing budgets, area layouts and overall marketing and merchandising efforts. Merchandises and markets retail apparel items in a dynamic, professional and creative manner. Works with multiple apparel vendors to buy for a department with an inventory value in excess of $500,000 at cost, and sales in excess of $1,000,000. Works with a variety of different gift vendors where department sales are approximately $35,000 annually, with an inventory value at cost of $12,000 to $15,000.
